Spirit of the Game
The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) promotes the values of Spirit of the Game (SOTG) across all disc disciplines, including Disc Golf. Spirit of the Game represents respect, integrity, and sportsmanship — the foundation of fair play and the true essence of competition.
At the WFDF World Team Disc Golf Championship, all players, captains, caddies, and staff are expected to uphold these principles both on and off the course. This includes showing respect toward opponents, officials, volunteers, spectators, and the natural environment in which the event takes place.
While Disc Golf is officiated differently from other WFDF disciplines, players are responsible for maintaining honesty and self-officiating within the rules of the sport. Disputes should be handled respectfully, with a focus on fair and sportsmanlike resolutions.
At the end of each match, participating teams are expected to form a Spirit Circle, where players from both teams briefly reflect on the match, acknowledge good play, and share feedback in a positive and respectful manner. This exchange reinforces the community spirit of the event and promotes friendship among nations.
In addition, each team will complete a Spirit of the Game assessment for their opponents. Spirit scores for all matches played during a given day should be submitted by the end of that competition day. Teams will evaluate their opponents in the following categories:
- Rules Knowledge and Use
- Fair-Mindedness
- Positive Attitude and Self-Control
- Communication
The WFDF encourages every participant to contribute to a positive atmosphere where competitive excellence and camaraderie go hand in hand — making the championship not only a contest of skill, but also a celebration of sportsmanship, friendship, and shared values.
Spirit Award
Since 2022, the WTDGC has also included the Spirit Award, recognising the team that best represents sportsmanship, fair play, respect for opponents, and the values of Spirit of the Game throughout the championship.

The Spirit Award is determined based on Spirit of the Game assessments submitted by participating teams during the event and serves as an important recognition of excellence beyond competitive results.
