About WTDGC

The WFDF World Team Disc Golf Championships (WTDGC) is the highest level international team competition in Disc Golf, bringing together national teams from around the world to compete for the title of World Champion. Organised by the World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF), the event celebrates not only sporting excellence but also the unique experience of representing your country through team play.

Unlike traditional individual tournaments, WTDGC is built around national teams and match play competition. Success depends not only on individual performance, but also on team strategy, player selection, partnerships, and cooperation across multiple matches.

The championship was first held in 2016 in Vancouver, Canada, with 6 national teams taking part – Australia,  Brazil, Canada, Japan, New Zealand and United States of America. What started as a small but ambitious international event quickly grew into a regular world championship for national Disc Golf teams.

The second edition followed in 2017 in Colchester, England and expanded to 10 teams. In 2019, WTDGC moved to Alutaguse, Estonia and continued its growth with 17 participating nations.

After a COVID break, the championship returned in 2022 in Varaždin, Croatia, where participation reached 25 teams and demonstrated that team disc golf had become firmly established internationally. The most recent edition was held in 2024 in Perth, Australia and welcomed 23 national teams despite the long travel distances involved for many countries.

The 2026 edition in Vilnius, Lithuania marks another important milestone in the history of the championship. It will be the sixth edition of WTDGC and, for the first time, will feature two competition divisions: Open Teams and Masters Teams.

With 49 teams representing 32 countries currently registered across both divisions, WTDGC 2026 is set to become the largest and most internationally diverse edition of the championship to date, reflecting the continued growth of team disc golf worldwide.

Competition will take place in the scenic surroundings of Pavilniai Regional Park in Vilnius, combining world-class Disc Golf with the atmosphere of one of Europe’s most vibrant and green capital cities.

One of the elements that makes WTDGC unique within the world of Disc Golf is the inclusion of Spirit of the Game (SOTG) evaluation and recognition. While concepts such as fair play and sportsmanship exist across many sports, flying disc disciplines place a stronger emphasis on player responsibility, respect, communication and the overall quality of interaction between competitors. The philosophy behind Spirit of the Game can be summarised simply: highly competitive play is encouraged, but never at the expense of respect between players, adherence to the rules, and the basic joy of play.

WTDGC is delivered by the WFDF Events Team in cooperation with the Local Organising Committee and in accordance with the competition rules, sporting principles and event guidelines established by the WFDF Disc Golf Committee. The Committee, chaired by Craig Sheather, is responsible for the ongoing development of the championship format and the continued growth of international team Disc Golf within the WFDF framework.

The championship is played under the official Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) Rules of Play and Competition Standards. Starting with the 2026 edition, WTDGC is also held in association with PDGA, reflecting a strengthened collaboration between the two organisations and supporting continued improvements in competition quality, international visibility and the overall participant and spectator experience.
