Unlike traditional individual disc golf tournaments, WTDGC focuses on team-based match play competition, where countries compete head-to-head through multiple singles and doubles matches across different player categories and divisions.
The championship was first held in 2016 and has since grown into one of the most internationally diverse disc golf events, bringing together national teams from Europe, North America, Asia-Pacific and other developing disc golf regions.
Previous editions of WTDGC have been held in:
- 2016 — Vancouver, Canada – Results (Teams) – Results (Team Members) – Results (Singles)

- 2019 — Alutaguse, Estonia – Results (Teams) – Results (Team Members)
- 2022 — Varazdin, Croatia – Results (Teams) – Results (Team Members)
