About WFDF
The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) is the international sports federation responsible for the global governance and development of flying disc sports, including Ultimate, Beach Ultimate, Disc Golf, Freestyle, Guts, and Individual Events.
Founded in 1985, WFDF today brings together 126 Member National Federations representing flying disc sports and their athletes across more than 122 countries worldwide. WFDF is recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), and the International University Sports Federation (FISU), and is a member of several international sport organisations including the International World Games Association (IWGA) and the Association of IOC Recognised International Sports Federations (ARISF). WFDF is also a signatory to the World Anti-Doping Code.
As the international governing body for flying disc sports, WFDF sanctions World Championships and international events, establishes competition standards and rules, records World Records, and supports the continued growth and recognition of the sport worldwide.
WFDF’s mission is:
“To support and promote the inclusive growth and development of all Flying Disc sports and Spirit of the Game.”
WFDF is governed through a structure of elected leadership, professional staff, commissions and sport-specific committees responsible for governing and developing flying disc sports internationally.
At the highest governance level, WFDF is led by an elected Executive Committee headed by Robert Rauch (USA) as President and Brian Gisel (Canada) as Vice President, together with other elected officers responsible for strategic direction, governance, finance and organisational development. The Executive Committee oversees the long-term vision of the Federation and works together with staff, committees and Member Federations to support the continued growth of flying disc sports worldwide.
Alongside the Executive Committee and Executive Staff, WFDF operates through Disc Sport Committees dedicated to each discipline — including Disc Golf, Ultimate, Beach Ultimate, Freestyle, Guts and Overall Flying Disc — as well as several cross-disciplinary commissions supporting all flying disc sports. These commissions contribute to areas including athlete representation, medical and anti-doping policy, ethics, inclusion and equality, sustainability, youth development and Spirit of the Game.
Within Disc Golf, international competition and long-term development are guided through the WFDF Disc Golf Committee, which supports the strategic direction of the discipline and develops competition standards and recommendations for international events.
The WFDF World Team Disc Golf Championships (WTDGC) is delivered by the WFDF Events Team under the sporting guidance and competition framework established by the WFDF Disc Golf Committee, currently chaired by Craig Sheather, and in accordance with WFDF policies and PDGA competition rules.
This structure allows WFDF to combine international governance, sport-specific expertise and internationally recognised standards for event management, athlete welfare and fair competition while continuing to support the growth of flying disc sports worldwide.
